When you decided to lose weight do you set your weight lose goals or do you just say well I want to lose some weight? Setting your goals is going to be key to if you succeed or fail in your weight loss battle.
I used to just say ok I want to lose this much and than I would not set any real true goals to go with that weight loss. But, that seemed to never work for me because I would not give myself a time frame. Or I would set something that was totally not even possible like. I want to lose 15 pounds in a month… Uh hello I don’t think so. At least if you are trying to make this a life change.
Since than I have learned that the best way to lose weight is to set some realistic goals that go along with weight loss. You need to decide how much you want to lose first. Once you decide that the rest of the goal setting is pretty easy.
The healthy way to lose weight is to lose about 1-2 lbs a week. So for me I want to lose 70 lbs…. So if I lose 5 lbs a month that will take me 15 months.. So I will say I want to weigh 150 lbs by January 2012. I know that seems like a long ways away but this needs to be life changing and if you do it correctly it will totally work. Once I have that goal set than I set up some mini goals.
My mini goals just break it down further as to how much weight I want every three months. SO my first mini goal is that I want to lose 15 lbs by December 20th. That will take me down below 200 lbs.. WOOO HOOO…
The awesome thing about this first mini goal for me is that I have joined Plus Size Bloggers: Fall 15 kick off tracking contest. This will really help me get where I need to be and keep me accountable.

Great on the goals! My goals are actually other things THAN losing weight. If I succeed in my goals I WILL lose weight though. But if I put a number on a goal for weight loss, it just doesn’t work. So my goals are to write down and track what I eat, blog as often as possible as I feel more accountable that way and to get up an move a LOT more! Stop snacking is a HUGE goal for me too. That’s my nemesis. IF I do these, weight loss will happen for me. Go here’s to goals, big or mini!
Found you on the fall 15 challenge. I have a weight loss blog and a recipe blog if you are interested.
I completely agaree about goal setting! I want to lose 100 lbs by January 1, 2012. I started my journey on May 29, 2010 when I joined Weight Watchers. I set goals within in the 1-2 lbs/week range. My first mini goal was 5 %. I reached that in July. My next goal is 10 %. I am 2 lbs away from reaching this goal and I want to reach it by October 23. I am also in the Fall 15 Challenge and want to reach my 15 lbs loss in 12 weeks. My next mini goal is ONEDELAND, to be below 200 lbs (199.8) by January 1 ,2011.
Breaking your BIG goal into mini goals is perfect! That’s exactly what I do. I try to focus on 5 or 10 pounds at a time. It’s slow, but the slower the better….more sustainable. Keep it up and the pounds will start to melt away.
What are you doing to achieve these goals? Do you have a special meal plan or workout plan that you will follow?
I agree with what Tracy said about breaking your big goal down into smaller goals. It’s so much easier to strive towards losing 5 pounds instead of a huge goal like 50 pounds. (hmmm….preaching to myself here! lol) You go girl – you can do this!
